first semester of college!!!

Hey guys!! I feel like its been foreverrrrr since I've posted a blog, I'm sorry about that!! Life got pretty hectice for a while with finals and coming back home for winter break!! But now my first semester of college is over and I decided to share with y'all my experience and what I've learned!!

My first semester was very, well um, unpredictable. It didn't exactly go the way I thought it was going to, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! Although it went differently than planned, I still loved it!!! I'm so glad I was able to experience it, and I'm grateful for the opportunity I had, because I know not everyone gets the same opportunity. So as many of y'all know, I attend Union College, in Kentucky where I have received a scholarship to play soccer. Well, the whole soccer thing didn't quite go as planned, as I ended up having to redshirt this year due to a heart problem (who woulda thought having a heart condition was a big deal apparently). Anyone who knows me can probably imagine how hard having to take an entire season off would have been on me, but I somehow managed to get through it, and lets just say I hope I never, ever have to take a season off again!!

So a few things I've learned this semester....

1. Put effort into your grades!!!!

In high school, I never really tried towards my schoolwork. I hardly ever studied or did any homework. When I got to college, I quickly changed that. I spent countless hours in the library working on papers, making flashcards to study for an exam, or doing whatever other homework I had. My friends often would make fun of me for how much time I spent in the library, but hey at the end of the day (well, technically the semester), it all paid off!!

2. Try new things!!!

So moving from a city to the country, definitely calls for some new, different things. I definitely learned to be open to experiencing new things!! I was able to go home with a friend for a weekend and it was fun because her life is so different than mine, and it was so interesting being able to experience what she does! She took me all around her town, we went mudding, and finished the weekend off with a "barn party".

3. Be yourself!!!

Something I struggled with badly throughout high school was being myself and staying true to myself. I often found myself trying to be like everyone else, trying to fit in and was so unhappy because of it. This year, I decided to just be me- my crazy, awkward, weird self- and I was so much happier! It was so much more fun being myself than trying to be like everyone else & I found that my friends were accepting of me no matter what!!

4. Have fun, but not too much fun!!!

This is the part that my parents will probably yell at me for later (sorry mom & dad)...but its no secret that college kids are going to go out. Its almost expected for students to go and have fun on while we're in college. Going out is fun and gives us lots of memories (if you end up remembering lol) to look back on. But there is definitely a time and a place for this. If this begin to interefere with school or any other aspect of your life, then you definitely need to take a step back and reprioritize things.

5. Lastly, make the moments last!!!

College is just like high school, it flies by! I still can't believe I'm already halfway done with my freshman year! It feels like just yesterday I was packing all my stuff up to head down to Kentucky. College is what you make of it. Staying in your dorm all day with your door shut is pretty boring!! Going out of your comfort zone, trying new things and talking to new people is what will give you the best memories!!

My first semester was definitely one for the books! I'm so happy I've gotten to make so many memories and have met some pretty great people!! Can't wait to spend the next few years with all my new, amazing friends!!! Here's a little slideshow of just a few of the memories I've made this semester!!
