Setting an Example

Growing up, I never had an older sister that I could look up to. I remember always wishing I had an older sister to be able to have an older girl who could be a role model as well as a friend to me, and to this day I still wish I had that. Someone I could go to to talk about boys or gossip or just ask advice. Since I never had this, I've always tried my hardest to be this person for both my younger sisters, as well as my little cousins whom I am very close to.

My younger sisters are both a few years younger than me, but only a year apart from each other, so its no surprise that they have always been very close. For the most part, they've always had pretty similiar views on things while mine were not always the same because of the fact I am a few years older. I remember I would do things and my sisters would make fun of me, and now that they are the age that I was at the time they do the same things they made fun of me for. I wish I realized back then how much they really were looking up to me and watching what I did.

My little cousins are alot younger than my sisters, so I know that they are much more impressionable than my sisters are. Because they are so young, I try my hardest to set a good example for them. I know that because I am so close to them, that they look up to me. Being able to watch them grow up and see how much of a difference I make in their lives is such a rewarding thing that has taught me a lot. Most importantly, it has taught me that I have to be cautious what I do, because they are watching what I do and if they see me do something, they're going to want to be like their big cousin.

I only hope that I set a good example for my younger sisters and little cousins. I try so hard to be a person that both my sisters and cousins will also try to be like, not in the sense that they try to be just like me, but in the sense that they know they have someone whom they can look up to and go to for advice. I hope that I somehow make a difference in their lives, the way I wish I had an older sister or older (girl) cousin to look up to.
